Meet the Elumalais
Coming from a family rooted in the local wood furniture business for over 50 years, Mr. & Mrs. Elumalai are owners of a wood furniture workshop in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.  Together they are a team in running their business out of their home:  Mr. Elumalai, the expert craftsman behind the design, carpentry and production of all the wood furniture and Mrs. Elumalai, the manager of the shop who also lends her abilities to finishing each piece of furniture with hand-carved motifs and engravings.  Their shop is known for producing traditional furniture such as wooden cots, almirahs, doors, doorsteps, windows and dressing tables.  While they are not the only wood furniture carpenters in town they have the advantage of being an established and respected business within the community.
  
What’s their story? 
Recently the government announced housing initiatives for the local community, and as a result the housing construction industry is experiencing rapid growth. To keep up with this increase in demand, specifically for wood furniture, windows, and doors, the Elumalais realized their need to be more efficient with their manufacturing process.
 
With the $2,250 USD (Rs. 100,000) InVestment from InVenture they will purchase a wood polishing machine.  This machine will allow The Elumalais to save time in their manufacturing process and money by eliminating the current outsourcing costs of $68 USD (Rs. 3,000) per order.
